The latest patch for Electronic Arts’ football game addresses the infamous “speed boost,” an exploit in Ultimate Team that some players of EA Sports FC 25 were taking advantage of.
An unexpected update has arrived, tackling one of the community’s biggest complaints: the imbalance caused by extremely fast players in Ultimate Team mode.
Since its launch, EA Sports FC 25 has faced criticism due to the difficulty of stopping players like Kylian Mbappe or Rafael Leao, who seemed nearly unstoppable in online matches. These already fast players became even quicker thanks to an exploit that quickly spread among the community.
What was the speed boost exploit in EA Sports FC 25?
This exploit, known as the speed boost, allowed certain players to make sudden accelerations that were almost impossible to counter. For weeks, Ultimate Team players have been using this technique to easily outpace defenses, causing frustration within the community. However, a few days ago, EA Sports released a surprise patch that tweaks this exploit, affecting both speed and the accuracy of some passing mechanics.
The speed boost was a technique that relied on a simple button combination: switching from a controlled dribble to a sprint would give certain players a sudden burst of speed. This wasn’t just about the player’s skills but also their acceleration, speed, or agility stats. This seemingly unstoppable move has now been fixed in the latest patch, with EA Sports reducing instances of excessive, involuntary accelerations during sprints.
Along with this fix, the new EA Sports FC 25 patch has also adjusted the accuracy of first-touch lofted passes, especially those made from difficult angles. This mechanic had also been exploited by players to execute nearly perfect offensive plays.
As a reminder, EA Sports FC 25 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
